Blackford High School in San Jose, California, was opened in 1961. Students came from neighboring Junior High and High Schools to become the first Blackford Braves. The school closed as a High School in the eighties, reopened briefly in the nineties, then again closed and the buildings are now used for other educational purposes.

Thanks for setting up this page! I’m wondering where the La Bella Ferrara Cafe is in the foto at the top of the page. Is it related to Joe Ferrara?
My pleasure – I hope people contribute and visit. LOL I just noticed the name on the umbrella yesterday. I would love to replace that pic with that graduation picture of the entire class. I know I bought it but have lost track of where it is now. If anyone has it, and can scan it, please email it to me!
Aha! Thanks to Irene Panighetti Self, the picture is up and it looks great!
It’s great to see a website for our class. Thanks, Irene, for finding and scanning the class picture. I don’t know how you scanned something so wide, so I’ll just assume you are much more of a techie than I am.
The photos of the June reunion convinced me that I missed a great evening. Lots of familiar smiles there, though the complete packages have changed a little. For the better, of course.
Lots to remember about those Blackford days. Boys without belts–horrors! Skirt length checks. Some very favorite teachers–some great teachers, too, whose talents I didn’t appreciate until much later.
I remember thinking that at least OUR yearbook pictures would not look dated like our parents’ did since we were so natural in our hairstyles. Oh yes, I laugh about that one now.
Looking forward to seeing many of you on October 3.
Thanks for setting this page up.
I’m planning on coming in October, it sounds fun. I’m just up in the North Bay, San Rafael, so it’s not too far.
You guys know about these pictures … right?

Seems like they should be worth a link from this website.

I have to admit to showing those online senior pictures to some folks at work once with a lot of laughter. Most of the folks I work with are at least 20 years younger and they could not believe that I had actually attended high school on a different planet.
The guys hair isn’t so bad from high school, they made us keep it trimmed. Besides, I’d pay good money to have hair like that now. However, there are certain photos of me from the 1970′s which I’m very glad are not available online.
For the guys at least, I don’t think anything tops the 1970′s for unfortunate fashion statements.
I wish I had my long hair back! My Sr. pic had my hair in a bee hive that my sister, Kathy, did up (eewww)
It wag great seeing all of you at the Oct. reunion. There were alot of people not there. I hope to see those people again, like Chris Bruey, Mike Pernet, Adrian Vanudie (spell), Gary Gilbert, Dave Conner. Anyone know where they are?
Just thought I’d let you know I’ve included a link to this blog from the Blackford High School entry on ClassicSchools.com.
You have a great site here; keep up the good work!
